Hourly ↔ Salary converter
Convert an hourly rate to an annual salary (or back again) using your real hours and weeks. Then see what lands in your bank after tax.
$35.00/hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks.
Net figures assume 3% KiwiSaver, no student loan. For exact take-home, use the PAYE calculator.
Conversions are based purely on the hours and weeks you enter. Real take-home also depends on PAYE bracket, ACC levy, KiwiSaver and any student loan.
Two quick examples.
Contractor sanity check. If a client offers you $75/hour, what does that map to as a "salary equivalent"? At 40 hours a week, 48 weeks (allowing 4 weeks off unpaid), that's $144,000 gross. Before you celebrate, remember a contractor covers their own leave, KiwiSaver, and ACC levies — so you'd want the equivalent salaried role to pay materially less to be comparable.
Part-time to full-time. You're on $32/hour, 20 hours a week. Switching to full-time (40 hours, 52 weeks) isn't a simple 2× — it's $32 × 40 × 52 = $66,560 gross, which crosses from the 17.5% band into 30%, so your net doesn't double.
